Smithills Hall, Bolton, England

Smithills Hall

Smithills Hall

Smithills Hall is a Grade I listed manor house, a scheduled monument and one of the oldest manor houses in the north west of England. Some parts date from the 15th century. It is owned by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council and open to the public.

The Green Room of Smithills Hall is supposedly haunted by the Reverend George Marsh, who was burned at the stake outside Chester on 24th April 1555 for heresy.

In the chapel, a figure has been seen kneeling in prayer. Also, a man with white bushy hair and dressed in black has been reported.

Barrier ropes swing of their own accord as if someone has just brushed passed them. Staff members have also heard cats meowing, and children giggling.
